Home Remedies for Erasing Age Spots and Sun Damage

Can Simple, Inexpensive Tricks Get Rid of Dark Spots?

Are you tired of just covering up age spots because the specialty creams are so expensive?

Old wives tales abound about cures for sun damage and other dark spots on your face, hands, and chest, but which ones really work?

The best way to avoid the entire mess is to do what you can to avoid them to begin with. Use lots of sunscreen every time that you go out, and reapply often if you’re outside.

We did some research for you to see which simple products found on most household shelves really work, and we’ve made you a list. Read on after watching the video that talks about some of them!

Onion and Vinegar

That’s right – They don’t just taste great in your salad! The acids in the vinegar and onions work to reduce and reverse he oxidization of your skin that causes the dark spots and breaks up the melanin so that your sun damage and age spots go away.

Onion is also an anti-microbial so it helps to clear your pores of any bacteria or germ that’s moving in before it has a chance to develop into a pimple that can scar you or make a dark spot.

Slice an onion and have it ready, as well as a capful of apple cider vinegar. Clean your skin well with a gentle cleanser then rub a Q-tip on the onion and rub the juice gently onto your age spots. Dip the other end of the Q-tip in the apple cider vinegar and rub it on top of the onion juice. Leave on for 45 minutes.

Repeat daily and you’ll see results in a month or so, and the spots will be significantly reduced or gone in around 6 weeks.

Aloe Vera

Aloe is a powerful antioxidant and an excellent moisturizer. It also has healing properties so it’s great for damaged spots that are layered and dark. Apply to the spots with a Q-Tip and you can just leave it on. Be aware, though that it’ll flake off when it dries so you may want to take it off before you go anywhere if you use enough that it doesn’t all absorb.

Castor Oil

Castor oil’s been used medicinally for centuries and is good for everything from muscle strain to constipation and menstrual irregularities. Just remember that you can’t take it internally and you shouldn’t use it on broken skin or if you’re nursing or pregnant.

Apply the castor oil to your dark spots with a Q-tip and do your best to keep it from running onto the rest of your face. If it does run, just brush it off with a dry rag. Leave it on for 45 minutes or so and you’ll start to see results in about 4-6 weeks.

Castor oil is more powerful when you apply heat to it. If you’re going to use it on your chest, hands, or arms, apply the castor oil then put a towel over it and lay a hot water bottle or heating pad on the towel so that the oil has a chance to get warm. A great time to do this is when you’re watching TV or reading at night.
