Resveratrol Health Benefits

While it is important to note that most of the research on resveratrol thus far has been on animals, there is strong evidence to suggest similar health benefits in people.

The results on mice, for example, have been particularly interesting. We share over 85% of the same genes, and because mice have an average lifespan of only 2 years it gives us a window into how our own future could benefit from resveratrol.

The results have been simply incredible. Two groups of mice were both fed the same high fat diets, similar to fast food for humans, however one of the groups were also given resveratrol. The mice given resveratrol didn’t get any of the diseases of old age like heart disease, diabetes, cancer or osteoporosis. In addition, they lived an average of 30% longer.

Health Benefits of Resveratrol Observed in Mice

  • Burned fat, increased energy
  • Lowered risk of heart disease and diabetes
  • Less inflammation in aging heart
  • Improved bone health
  • Reduced risk of cancer
  • Reduced cataract formation
  • Enhanced balance and motor coordination
  • More endurance (ran 2x further)
  • Improved brain and kidney health
  • Improved cell protection

Health Benefits of Resveratrol Predicted for Humans

Dr. David Sinclair from Harvard University predicts that humans can expect very similar results as the ones listed above for mice. “If you are in your 80s you will be behaving as if you were in your 50s,” he claims, and we hope he’s right. Dr. Sinclair has also stated that resveratrol shows potential for both preventing and treating many of the diseases that cause aging, such as Alzheimer’s, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and many more.

While resveratrol is currently in clinical trials for humans, it is already available for supplemental use. The full extent of resveratrol health benefits won’t be known for years to come, but there is already more than enough justification to start taking it today.
