Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream Review

Looking for a Good Drugstore BB Cream?

BB Creams have popped up everywhere and every one of them is different in composition and function.

Garnier has jumped on the bandwagon and we were hearing some good things, so we decided to check it out.

Garnier’s Skin Renew BB Cream makes some pretty decent claims so we’re going to take a look at those, then check out the ingredients and see what real users are saying about this product. First though, you should know that a BB cream isn’t the same thing as a foundation.

BB creams, aka beauty balms, have been used by women in the East for eons. It’s what they use to give them that smooth, porcelain complexion without looking cakey. Most of us Western women don’t have that type of skin so we need a cream with a bit of tint but the idea is the same.

The problem though is that since it was originally meant just to even out your skin tone sort of like a primer, most BB creams don’t come in very many shades. We’ll see how Garnier’s BB cream stacks up.

What Do They Claim?

Garnier claims that their Skin Renew BB Cream has five results. It evens your skin tone, hydrates your skin, renews your skin so that it looks younger and softer, it protects your skin from the damaging effects of the sun and it brightens your complexion.

As we were afraid of, it’s only available in 2 shades. However, if it works well for everything else, it’s always possible that you can use it as a primer underneath your foundation. Now that we know what they’re claiming, let’s take a look at the active ingredients.

What’s In It?

The first awesome ingredient is hyaluronic acid; that wonderful humectant that can hold up to 3000 times its weight in water. There’s the antioxidant vitamin C that can help your skin rebuild and it also makes your skin look brighter. Glycerin helps moisturize your skin without drying you out. Finally, octinoxate is a sunblock that helps to protect you from the sun damage that causes many of the signs of aging, including wrinkles and age spots.

There are also mineral pigments, the typical preservatives, emollients and ingredients that keep the bb cream from separating but there doesn’t seem to be anything too bad in there. Overall, a decent ingredients list for a makeup product.

What Are Users Saying?

People like this product and comment that, especially considering the cost, it does a good job. The mineral pigments help cover up minor flaws and the texture of the cream helps it to flow on smoothly without looking either streaky or cakey.

The few detractors that didn’t like it are used to using either Clinique or Estee Lauder BB Creams, both of which are much thicker than this one and they didn’t like the consistency of Garnier’s product. One other thing to note again is that there’s only 2 shades so you may not be able to match your skin tone.

Final Word

Considering it’s available in drug stores and is often available for less than $10, this is a really good BB cream for the money, assuming you can get it to match your tone. Because the SPF is only 15, you may want to use a bigger gun if you’re going to be out in the sun for any amount of time. Other than that, you may just find a new favorite product!

I love the Garnier Oil Free BB cream – may not be as thick as some of the BB creams, but it’s not so greasy and I have not had one problem with my skin breaking out since using this product. Tried three other brands of BB cream, and all very greasy. Even after eight hours of wear, my skin still feels clean, even in hot weather. Guess I lucked out that one of the colors works just right for me.
As for consistency, once you are aware that it comes out of the tube very quickly, you learn how to handle the product to get just the right amount without waste.
