Covergirl and Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation Review

Great Coverage or Just a Marketing Blitz?

Do you need moisturizing, wrinkle coverage, and toning in your foundation?

If so, Covergirl and Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation may be just the product that you’re looking for.

By the end of this article, you’ll know exactly what’s in CG’s latest superstar and whether or not it’s going to live up to your expectations or prove to be just another way to waste your youth-regaining money.

What Is It?

Covergirl has teamed up with Olay frequently recently in an effort to corner the market on the department store anti-aging crowd. The blitz has met with limited success, partially due to poor coverage and difficulty using the ColorMatch system that many of the CG products use. Let’s take a look at the foundation/serum pairing called Tone Rehab 2-in-1.

What Are the Claims?

According to Covergirl, Tone Rehab instantly covers age spots and other skin discolorations and moisturizes in order to improve your skin tone over time. They’re so sure that you’re going to love this product that they offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back.

What’s Really In It?

I was a little surprised when I started really looking at the ingredients in Tone Rehab. There are some things in there that really have the potential to make this an outstanding product and I’m a little puzzled about why CG didn’t tout the other benefits as well.

The first ingredient is cyclopentasiloxane (a silicone product) that’s used as a lubricant and a filler to help smooth wrinkles. It’s also used to make the product spread well, cover smoothly, and feel velvety. There are some warnings by environmentalists about this ingredient because it IS a silicone product. However, it’s listed as safe to use and is an extremely common ingredient in many cosmetics. There are actually three different types of silicone in this product. Personally, even being the ingredients freak that I am, I’m not particularly worried here.

The next surprise was that the product contains a couple of different sunscreens. Big Plus!

There are a few different antioxidants in Tone Rehab too, including vitamins E, B3 (niacin), and B5 (panthenol). In addition to fighting free radicals, these also help with moisturizing, especially the B5.

Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, a synthetic protein fragment that stimulates collagen synthesis in the skin, is also an ingredient. It’s used in such wrinkle-reducing agents as Matrixyl.

The final goody in Tone Rehab is allantoin. This is a moisturizing agent often used in after-sun lotions and acne medications because it counteracts drying agents and sun damage by causing the keratin in your skin to soften. There’s the actual moisturizing agent. It’s safe and non-toxic and is being studied for potential use in treating wounds, scars, and burns.

What Do Users Say?

In a nutshell, people with normal to dry skin are loving it. They say that the product is light, goes on smoothly and provides great, natural-looking coverage. They’re also reporting that their skin is less dry after continued use and that the product works well on dry areas without giving your skin that cakey look that often happens when you put foundation on dry skin.

Some people with oily skin aren’t loving it so much though; they say that Tone Rehab’s too greasy.

Final Word

Rarely will you hear me say this, so listen up – BUY THIS! If you have dry skin, fine lines, and discoloration, this is one of the best products that I’ve found so far – regardless of cost. When you add in Covergirl’s 100% money-back guarantee, there’s no reason not to try it. You seriously have nothing to lose but you do have moist, smooth-looking skin to gain. I used Mary Kay make up for over 40 years. After I had to change my make up color at least 4 times (because they discontinued my color), I got tired of it and decided to try Cover Girl & Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1. Honestly, I LOVE it! I had no problem finding the perfect color. It goes on so easily and it doesn’t look caked on like other make up does. Thank you Cover Girl, you are my new “best friend”….I LOVE this product!!

Awesome Nancy! Thanks for letting us know how this worked for you, and I’m glad you like it. It’s not easy to find a foundation that works, let alone one that has the “good stuff” in it as well.

It was great the first time I used it. Nice and light, exceptional natural looking coverage. That was, until it started burning my face and making it beet red. Sadly, will not use this or any olay products again.

I’m sorry to hear that you had a reaction to the product like that. I wonder if maybe it was the niacin in it. Have you ever used niacin either topically or orally before? A “niacin flush” is red and makes your face feel hot so perhaps that’s what happened. At any rate, I hope you can find a better product.
