Anti-Aging Carbon Dioxide Laser Treatments

carbon dioxide laser treatment

Carbon dioxide laser treatment is a form of anti-aging therapy that uses laser light energy for skin resurfacing. This removes the damaged skin of the outer layers so that the healthy, softer, smoother skin beneath it is revealed. This treatment is ideal for treating wrinkles and deeper facial lines.

With new and advanced laser technology, CO2 lasers use light beams that are scattered or pulsed at extremely high rates, reducing the risks of heat-induced damage to skin. Because of this new technology, CO2 lasers can penetrate deeper into the surfaces of the skin, removing deep damaged areas and stimulating the skin underneath to regenerate into new and healthy skin. Carbon dioxide laser treatments have been proven to remove deep creases and pronounced wrinkles, providing dramatic anti-aging results. They can be used over the entire surface of the face or can be aimed at specific areas such as the eyes or mouth. For treatment of small areas, a local anesthetic is often used for relieving any potential discomfort that may be experienced. When the patient’s entire face is being treated, general anesthesia is normally used.

Ideal candidates for CO2 laser beauty treatments are individuals with significant wrinkles and facial lines as well as those with uneven pigmentation or facial scars. With the precision of removing layers of damaged skin, lines and wrinkles are reduced providing a more youthful appearance. Procedures are usually performed in an outpatient facility. For small, specific areas of treatment, procedures can take from 30 to 45 minutes. For full facial treatments, the procedure can last up to 2 hours.

Normal recovery time  after a carbon dioxide laser treatment is about two weeks. In this time, the skin completely heals and a new skin layer forms. Redness or pinkness of the skin may last longer, perhaps up to several months. Patients are often advised to plan to spend one to two weeks away from the workplace for recovery. With the removal of damaged skin layers, the new skin that appears will be wrinkle-free with smoother and tighter looking skin. This same result can also be achieved on the neck and hands using CO2 laser treatments.

Depending on the severity of the wrinkles, repeat CO2 treatments may be needed but those with minor skin flaws and light wrinkles can often experience excellent results with just one to two treatments. Average costs for treatments are between $2000 and $3000 per treatment. Most people who have had anti-aging carbon dioxide treatments are very happy with the results and believe that there is no better treatment available today.
