It’s Official: Omega 3 Fatty Acids Make You Look and Feel Younger

New Benefit: Fish Oil May Actually Stop Aging In Its Tracks

If you’re taking Omega 3’s, you may be getting a bigger bang for your buck than you first expected.

In addition to supplements, many of us incorporate salmon, leafy greens, flaxseed and other natural sources of omega 3 fatty acids into our diets as often as possible because we know that these essential oils help keep us healthy.

How do we know that? Because science has shown conclusively for a few decades now that omega 3’s help with heart health, brain health, and about a dozen other issues.

Despite this mountain of evidence, the positive effects that omega 3 fatty acids have on health was recently challenged by ABC News and other media leaders when the results of a study conducted Dr. Evangelos Rizos were released in the Journal of American Medical Association.

ABC absurdly inferred on Sept. 11, 2012 in their report titled “Fish Oil No Lifesaver, Study Finds” that fish oil is an expensive waste of money. The study, which in fact was just a convergence of data collected from numerous projects on more than 70,000 people, stated that perhaps a more organized study with control groups, similar dosages, and other controls would be more appropriate and accurate. Indeed. Fortunately Ohio State University was all over it.

Omega 3’s Protect Telomeres

According to the article published in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, OSU’s study was conducted on overweight but healthy adults who were at least middle-aged that took a substantial regular dosage of omega 3 fatty acids (1.25-2.5 grams) for four months. One of the results of this study was that the DNA section (called telomeres) of immune cells were lengthened in those who regularly took the supplement.

What a mouthful! What does it mean, though? If you don’t know what telomeres are, you’ll find more information in our article called Can Telomerase Reverse the Signs of Aging.

Basically, telomeres are little segments of DNA information that accompany new cells as your cells mature and divide. As these split off, the cell ends get shorter and when they’re gone altogether, the cell dies. Therefore, anti-aging researchers believe that finding a way to stop the telomeres from shortening is the key to stopping the aging process.

This is an extremely exciting finding because it suggests that we may just have found a way to alter the aging process via nutritional supplementation. That’s a huge concept!

Omega 3’s Decrease Inflammation

A secondary finding of this study indicates that omega 3’s decrease inflammation that is directly related to heart disease, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, cancer and myriad other disorders. This blows the claim that fish oil has no effect on heart disease right out of the water, AGAIN.

The Connection Between Chronic Inflammation and Telomeres

What makes this reassertion that increased omega 3 ratios are associated with decreased inflammatory responses so important is that telomeres seem to be affected by inflammation. In fact, a particular inflammatory marker known as IL-6 is directly associated with telomere lengthening, and this study showed a decrease in IL-6 of 6-12% depending on the dose in people who regularly took their fish oil.

If changes in telomeres are truly the result of inflammation, then the results of this research suggest that omega 3 fatty acids may be even more extraordinary for you than was originally believed. As anti-aging research continues to expand, fish oil is stepping to the forefront as a key agent that is truly earning a place both on your plate and in your medicine cabinet.

The best thing about these findings is that they just add to the pile of awesome benefits that fish oil offers us. Other bonuses include increased cognitive function, decreased risk of depression and physical benefits such as better hair, nails, and skin.

Top 5 Ways to Live to Be 100

5 Easy Tricks to Make You a Centenarian

Would you like to live to be 100 but think that it’s too late?

If so, don’t be silly! If you’ve made it this far, you’re already ahead of the game, regardless of how old you are.

When I began researching the best ways to live to be 100, I expected a bunch of medical advice, but what I found instead was pleasantly surprising.

Yes, you need to do the typical things that your doctor continually preaches about: exercise, quit smoking, maintain a healthy weight, and generally take care of yourself. However, there are other factors that play a significant role in how long and how well you live.

Read on to learn just how easy it can be to live each year so that you’re increasing the odds of getting more!

1. Enjoy Your Significant Other

One of the top things that correlates with people who live to be centenarians is that they were in a successful, long-term relationship that brought them happiness.

It may be easy to live with somebody that you aren’t entirely happy with when you’re both working 40 hours per week but once you retire, you really need to be able to enjoy each other. The chronic stress of a toxic relationship can literally take years off of your life, so if you want to live longer, choose carefully when picking your life mate.

2. Surround Yourself with Friends and Family

Research suggests that people who are close to their families and lead active, healthy social lives may not only live longer, but may also recover more quickly from illnesses when they do get sick. Also, having a network of people with whom you regularly enjoy spending time may strengthen your immune system as well as reduce your chances of suffering from depression and chronic anxiety.

3. Switch to a Mediterranean Diet

Italians are known for their longevity and their propensity to age well and for years, this has been attributed to the Mediterranean diet that they follow. Olive oil, a staple food, is rich in Omega 3’s which are linked to increased telomere health and reduced risk of Alzheimer’s, type-2 diabetes, heart disease, and many other conditions related to unhealthy aging.

Mediterranean diets are also rich in fruits and fresh vegetables which provide a host of age-fighting and disease preventing antioxidants, nutrients, and phytonutrients.

Red wine is another staple and the resveratrol found in the skin of red grapes has long topped the list of anti-aging products. As a matter of fact, it’s been suggested that resveratrol ingestion is singlehandedly responsible for the French Paradox. If you’d rather supplement than drink red wine, click here to find some great deals on resveratrol.

4. Maintain a Good Attitude

There’s something to be said for seeing the glass as half full. People who have a positive outlook even when things aren’t that great are much more prone to live longer and suffer from fewer illnesses.

Happy people cope with stress better than their pessimistic counterparts, and how we deal with stress plays a huge role in our health and longevity. They are also, for obvious reasons, less likely to suffer from depression, anxiety disorders, and many other types of diseases and illnesses.

5. Learn Something New

Whether you’re a puzzle connoisseur or prefer to master new physical activities such as boating or photography, learning new skills keeps your brain healthy and agile. According to recent research, people who are constantly on the hunt for new things to file in their mental card catalogs may be stimulating growth of new brain cells and keeping neural connections strong. This can help you avoid debilitating diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Final Word

There are no substitutes for following a healthy lifestyle, but living well encompasses way more than just eating good foods and working out regularly. If you truly want to live longer, think about your entire body, not just your physique.

Good mental hygiene and brain health is every bit as important as physical health and clean living so get out there, make some friends, have a glass of wine, and learn something. And don’t forget to have fun while you’re doing it!

If you’d like to add anything to what we’ve already discussed, please feel free to do so in the comments section below. Also, to learn more about a Mediterranean diet, check out some of these books.

How to Boost HGH Levels Naturally

How to Lift Your Way to a Younger You

Have you been hearing about how HGH injections can make you look and feel younger but are skeptical?

With all of the controversy surrounding this new anti-aging drug that claims miraculous results, it’s no wonder. Respected doctors and researchers stand divided on the topic; even the professionals can’t agree upon what the Human Growth Hormone can do when injected.

Let’s back up for a second, though. If you don’t know for sure exactly HGH is, check out our article HGH: Anti-Aging Superhero or Super Scam. I took the time to research exactly how it supposedly works for you and wrote that piece.

What Are the Primary Benefits of HGH?

This is the important part, so listen up. Proponents of HGH claim that, in a nutshell, it can actually reduce your biological age. Realistically, this equates to about 4 actual physical side effects:

  • Increase lean muscle mass
  • Increase the density of your bones
  • Decrease body fat percentage
  • Increase your endurance

Because it affects the musculoskeletal system, HGH is approved to treat muscle wasting in AIDs patients. Its effects on healthy adults are still being studied but there is some indication that it increases muscle mass and decreases body fat. Beyond that, results are mixed. Also, the negative effects that HGH might have on older adults aren’t yet known, but there are a few suspected side effects:

  • Muscle and joint poin
  • Swelling in your extremities
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Breast tissue enlargement in men

Are HGH Injections Your Only Option?

Excellent question! And the answer is “absolutely not”. As a matter of fact, there are a couple of other ways that you can increase your HGH levels, and the best way is one that you should be doing on a daily basis anyway: strength training.

That’s right. Strength training naturally increases your levels of HGH.As a matter of fact, if you look at the cost of HGH treatments along with other compounds that you may swallow or inject into your body for health purposes, you produce about $10K worth of beneficial “supplements” in an about an hour or so at the gym.

Wow, that kind of gives a little more value to your monthly gym membership fee, doesn’t it? Additionally, people who receive HGH shots are advised to participate regularly in exercise and to follow a healthy diet in order to fully reap the benefits of the growth hormone.

I’m not sure how much you know about strength training but if you don’t already know, try to take a guess at what the four main health benefits of lifting are. Let me give you a hint:

  • Increased lean muscle
  • Decreased body fat
  • Better endurance
  • Increased bone density

Sound familiar? If it doesn’t, maybe you should be considering memory-enhancing drugs! According to leading health facilities such as the Mayo Clinic, HGH enhances the benefits of exercise and a healthy diet. Some professionals even doubt the efficacy of the hormone shots if you don’t follow a healthy lifestyle while you’re getting the HGH.

Speaking of following a healthy diet, there numerous superfoods that you can incorporate into your diet in order to help you reap these benefits as well as others including decreased wrinkles, a lowered risk of many cancers, and better heart health. Some of these foods are:

  • Berries
  • Red wine
  • Spirulina
  • Fresh, leafy greens
  • Seaweed
  • Nut milks

In combination with an all-around healthy diet and a good exercise plan, these foods can act as your first line of defense in your fight against aging. You may very well be able to get a shot of HGH, but you’re still going to need to exercise and eat right. If that’s the case, you may as well get started regardless of whether or not you choose to begin an HGH regimen.

If you’re taking HGH or if you have any valuable information about it to share, please feel free to tell us about it in the comments section below!

BRTC Gold Caviar BB Cream Review

A Golden Find or Just a Fishy Deal?

BB Cream may be old news to Eastern Society but since it hit the Western fashion scene, the popularity of this mysterious new addition has exploded.

The problem is that BB cream IS new, so understanding how to use it can be difficult.

Is it a concealer? A foundation? A moisturizer? A primer? A sunscreen? An anti-aging cream? Well, yes, but a BB cream is much more than just the sum of its parts and may not be suitable for everyone.

BRTC’s Gold Caviar BB Cream is created for a very specific skin type, but if it’s formulated for you, then it’s possible that this wondrous product may just replace most of the daytime beauty products that currently take up space on your vanity.

What Do They Claim?

BRTC, or Bio Remedies Therapeutic Cosmetic, claims that this particular beauty balm is created using only the highest quality botanicals that are designed to nourish your skin using black caviar and colloidal gold. It helps form tight and even skin, provides light, even coverage that perfects, purifies, and brightens your skin.

Caviar is rich in omega-3’s and is a good source of vitamins A, B, C, and D as well several different minerals. It’s also similar in structure to human cells so many believe that this makes it a great product to deliver these wonderful nutrients.

BRTC goes on to explain the effect of gold therapy on the human body. According to their explanation, the electric current in gold works with the electric current in your body to normalize the ion current in your skin and activate skin function.

That last bit frankly sounds a bit like snake oil so I’m becoming a little skeptical. They claim that the Gold Caviar BB Cream is best for people with dry, worn skin, skin that’s aging and lacks resilience or skin that needs a continuous supply of moisture or nutrients.

What’s In It?

BRTC’s products use several different “patented special complexes” that are a combination of herbs and plant extracts that fight the various signs of aging, protect your skin from environmental toxins, and restore moisture and elasticity to your skin.

I’m always leery of products that don’t release a full ingredients list but BRTC welcomes clients to email them for a complete list, so that takes some of the sting out of the lack of ready availability. The fact that it has sunscreen in it is good, too. Though there are parabens in it, that doesn’t bother me quite enough to make me avoid the product.

Some of the ingredients listed for this BB cream include allentoin and green tea extract, products known to increase moisture and soothe skin. There’s also arbutin that is a natural lightening agent and adenosine, an organic compound that is widely used to reduce wrinkles.

The final two notable ingredients in Gold Caviar BB Cream are centella asiatica which is an antibacterial, anti-psoriatic, healing agent and vitamin E, which we all know is a soothing, healing antioxidant.

What Are Users Saying?

The reviews on this BB cream are widely mixed and the difference seems to be skin type. Those with extremely pale, dry, aging skin seem to love the product while people with normal or oily skin seem to feel that it’s too thick and greasy. Not surprising since caviar is fairly oily and the cream is packed with hydrating ingredients.

Also, the cream only comes in one extremely light, pink-tinted shade so if you aren’t fairly porcelain, you’re going to need a foundation or bronzer over it. The product provides medium coverage so if you have darker spots or freckles, you may find that they show through. Nobody really has anything to say about the wrinkle-fighting properties of the Gold Caviar BB Cream.

Users who like the product say that it needs 20 minutes or so to cure and for the color to mature so you may want to put it on and wait a few minutes to see what it’s going to look and feel like. It’s a bit sticky and chalky-looking as soon as you apply it. The scent is light and described as floral and clay-like.

Finally, though this product is extremely thick, people who took the time to get the hang of it say that it blends extremely well, and that it only takes a little dab of the cream to cover your entire face. That’s a great thing considering the fact that this is one of the more expensive BB creams out there.

Final Word

This cream seems to be a great option for people with extremely dry skin though if you have combination skin you may like this product as well, particularly in winter. The finish is dewy and lasts for about 4-5 hours so you’ll need to reapply halfway through the day.

The bottom line is that if you have light-toned, dry, sensitive, aging skin then this may be the perfect product for you. Just as a side note, BRTC also has a Jasmine BB Cream that many people with oilier skin seem to prefer over this one. Many users also like to mix the two. We’ll take a look at it in a future review.

This product tends to be a bit expensive so click here to find the best price on BRTC Gold Caviar BB cream.

If you’ve used the Gold Caviar BB Cream, please take a minute to tell us about your experience in the comments section below.

Top 5 Lifestyle Mistakes That Middle Aged Women Make

How to Make Middle Age The Best Years of Your Life!

Middle age isn’t exactly the barrel of monkeys that our 20’s were but many middle-aged women report that the 4th decade beats the 2nd one out by a landslide once you settle into it.

If you’re having trouble getting comfortable in your own aging skin, you may be making some of the same mistakes that other women do, so listen up and get ready to make some minor modifications that will have a major effect on your health and well-being

Eating Garbage

If you’re still living on pizza and donuts, you might want to stop like NOW unless you want to look like an 80-year old, overweight sea hag. Collagen is the fiber that holds your tissues together so that your face stays young-looking and firm. Glycation, the process used to break down sugars, damages collagen.

To minimize the damage that glyacation can do to your face, lay off the “everything” bagels and choose something whole grain instead. It’s naturally low in sugar and your body processes it slower so that your face and the rest of your skin isn’t taking such a beating.

Even better, opt for a bowl of strawberries or a salad along with some green tea. They actually stimulate collagen production and the antioxidants help fight other signs of aging as well as numerous diseases. Plus, the final benefit is that fruits, grains, and green tea can help you fight middle-aged spread!

Skipping Weight Training

For most of our adult lives, the need for cardiovascular exercise has been pounded into our heads. Unfortunately, many of us don’t do much weight training because we’ve been able to maintain decent muscle tone just from daily living.

Those days are now gone. Strength training is an excellent way to prevent osteoporosis, bone loss, muscle loss, and sagging skin. Make sure that you’re doing some moderate lifting at least 3 times per week.

Continuing Bad Habits

If you’re still smoking a pack a day and drinking like a fish, those two habits are going to catch up to you. They both dehydrate your skin which is a leading cause of wrinkles. Smoking also causes lip wrinkles and turns your teeth yellow, not to mention the fact that it kills you.

That’s not to say that a glass of wine or a beer is bad for you; as a matter of fact, research actually suggests that a drink or two daily is good for you. That’s one or 2 cocktails though – not an entire bottle! If you’ve quit and would like to get your teeth white again, try the Crest 3D Advanced Vivid Teeth Whitening Strips.

Not Sleeping Enough

You can’t continue to work your fingers to the bone without taking time to relax and get some sleep. When you’re snoozing, your body is healing and repairing itself so if you’re skipping your zzz’s, you’re going to start looking like it.

Though middle aged women need less sleep as we age, we need it more so that our bodies can take care of business. Otherwise, your health, your looks, and your cognitive abilities are going to suffer. You’ll feel run down and your immune system won’t be up to snuff so you’ll be more likely to get ill. Even 20-minute naps can be beneficial, so try to squeeze in the time.

If you’re having trouble sleeping, try having a glass of wine, warm milk, or hot decaffeinated tea before bed time. If all else fails, valerian root is a natural sleep aid and you can get it here.

Burning the Candle at Both Ends

This goes along with skipping sleep but the effects of stress on an aging body simply can’t be overstated. When you’re wound too tight and going at full tilt constantly, you’re inviting disease and wrinkles.

Also, if you’re still living life in the fast lane, you’re probably not taking the time to eat healthy foods, or exercise regularly, either. Slow down and smell the roses before you kill yourself. If you absolutely can’t slow down, try incorporating yoga into your life. It only takes a few minutes per day but it’s great for your body and your mind. I like the Yoga for Beginners DVD Series because I can do it at home when I get a chance.

Final Word

Life as a middle aged woman is hard enough when you’re doing everything that you can to help your aging body keep up. If you’re still living life like a partying, workaholic 29 year old, you’re going to start feeling and looking bad sooner rather than later.

The good news is that you’ve made it this far. They call it “middle age” for a reason – you still have half of your life ahead of you. The question is, do you want to live it happily and healthily, or would you rather be sickly and miserable, or perhaps skip it altogether? That decision is up to you, but take it seriously. It’s your life that you’re talking about!

If you’d like to add anything, we’d love to hear from you in the comments section below.

Five Anti-Aging Beauty Tips that Middle Aged Women Need to Know

How to Look Younger by Aging Wisely!

Turning 40 can be an awkward and frustrating time because we’re not quite spring chickens anymore, but we’re nowhere near being old hens yet either.

We’re kind of in the ‘tween stage of life. We’re old enough to know what we want and young enough to still do it. The problem, though, is what to wear and how to look our best when we’re doing it!

The answer here is that there’s no right answer. Wear clothes that fit you properly and that you feel comfortable in. One of the glorious things about getting a bit older is that you also become more comfortable in your own skin. You know what looks good and what doesn’t, so outside of that, wear what you like!

There are some things that you’re going to need to change though in order to stay looking great. Over the next few paragraphs, we’re going to talk about some minor modifications that you may want to make in order to stay looking young, fashionable and glowing.

Ditch That Plain Foundation

Chances are good that the foundation that you’ve been using for the last 25 years isn’t going to cut it for you anymore. As a matter of fact, regular foundations can settle into your fine lines and make you look even older.

Opt instead for a foundation formulated specifically for aging skin such as Clinique’s Even Better Makeup with SPF 15. Also, you may want to add a primer if you haven’t already because then you’ve got a nice even surface for your foundation.

Try Anthelios 50 Daily Anti-Aging Primer with Sunscreen. In addition to providing a great base for your foundation, it’s also hypoallergenic so even people with sensitive skin like it. If you’d like to read more about this product before clicking on the link to buy it, check out our review article here.

Add an Anti-Aging Moisturizer

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to find a good moisturizer. Look for products with hyaluronic acid, retinol (be careful with that if you have sensitive skin), collagen boosters, and antioxidants in them. Oil of Olay’s Total Effects Touch of Sun Moisturizer is good, plus it has the bonus slow tanning effect.

Treat Yourself to a Spa Day

Especially if you’ve been using the same color eye shadow and hair color since you were 30, go treat yourself to a spa day. Get a facial, a manicure, a pedicure, and have your hair and makeup done. Don’t skimp on this though. Go to a good quality place with professionals, not the local beauty academy.

The professionals at the spa will gladly coach you on what products and techniques work best with you skin and that’s really the key to stylish looks. Plus, you’ll have the added bonus of de-stressing and taking one of those rare, “me” days that we all need but rarely take!

Go Through Your Closet

No matter how much you like those size 6 flair jeans, if you’ve been a size 10 for 5 years, get rid of them. The same thing goes for those jeans that “almost” fit. They don’t, and tight clothes make you look even bigger, especially now that we’re a bit more…err…lumpy than we used to be.

On the flip side, ditch the “mom” jeans, too. They make you look old, and those high-waisted things haven’t been in fashion since the 80’s, plus they make your butt look huge. The first clue to others that you’re a frumpy, middle aged woman is that you’re dressing like one! Buy jeans and slacks that fit you now, and if that makes you crazy, use it as an incentive to lay off the cupcakes and head to the gym.

Get Active

It’s a sad fact that as you age, your metabolism slows down, which means that the moderate exercise and semi-decent diet that’s kept you slim and trim for 40 years may not be enough anymore. Middle-age spread is much easier to avoid than it is to get rid of, so be proactive. Make sure that you incorporate weight training too, because regular moderate resistance work keeps your bones strong and helps prevent osteoporosis.

Keep Up With Your Physicals

In these days of incredible medical technology, early disease detection is the key to survival. Most tests are non-invasive and covered by insurance, so there’s no real reason to lag behind on your checkups. Get your paps, mammograms, and all of the other goodies regularly so that if a problem arises, you’ll catch it before it has a chance to become unmanageable.

Also, keep up with your dental appointments and hair appointments. Nothing makes you look old and unkempt like yellow teeth or gray roots. The general rule is to simply take care of yourself. You’re going to need a bit more maintenance now that you did 2 decades ago, but it’s worth it!

Final word

Being a middle aged woman is fraught with challenges. We still feel young, but our bodies are changing almost daily. Our clothes don’t fit right, our makeup doesn’t hide our flaws anymore, and our hair is beginning to turn gray and get thinner. That’s a lot to absorb and adjust to.

By being proactive and taking good care of yourself now, you’ll be setting yourself up for years of active, healthy living, so take care – these first few changes are only the beginning, but how you manage them determines what comes next!

If you have anything that you’d like to add, feel free to do so in the comments section below!

Olay CC Cream Total Effects 7 Moisturizer + Touch of Foundation Review

Totally Award-Winning, But Does It Make Your Skin Look Younger?

Olay’s Total Effects 7 In One Moisturizer Plus Touch of Foundation was just recognized as one of the top anti-aging products Under $20, but does that mean that it actually does a good job, or just works well for what you’re spending?

We’re going to take a look at what Olay claims about the product, then check out the ingredients and see what real users are saying about it.

What Are The Claims?

Olay states that their CC Cream provides correction and instant coverage and fights the 7 signs of aging for youthful, even looking skin. You can either use it alone for a light, sheer coverage or underneath your foundation if you need more coverage. There’s a light tint to the moisturizer so if ou don’t need a ton of coverage, then you may be OK with just the CC Cream.

The 7 signs of aging include:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Dry Skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sagging skin
  • Uneven Skin Tone
  • Dull looking skin
  • Irregular texture

That sounds like a tall order for a moisturizer but let’s take a look at what’s in it.

What’s In It?

Oil of Olay’s CC Cream – Total Effects Moisturizer + Touch of Foundation has some fairly good ingredients in it including antioxidants, Vitamin A, B6, C, and panthenol. It also has titanium oxide and zinc oxide in it though I suspect that only the former is being used as a sunscreen. The latter is far enough down the list that it’s probably only used as a tint.

There are also moisturizing agents and ingredients that make it glide on smoothly. The ingredients list is nice considering the cost, so let’s see what users have to say about it.

What Do Users Say?

One of the most common comments about this CC Cream is that it’s non=greasy and great for people who just want a little bit of coverage. Many of those people report that though they usually use it by itself, they also use it under their foundations for more formal occasions or when they need more coverage.

Nobody really has much to say about the anti-aging effects of it but with the antioxidants in it, I’d say that it may show some improvement, it’s probably no miracle anti-aging wrinkle buster. That being said, your skin will probably look firmer and younger after continued use because of the moisturizers and antioxidants in it.

Final Word

For less than $20, this is a really nice product. It’ll moisturize as well as cover up minor flaws and even out your skin tone. The vitamins in it are great and simply adding moisture to dry, undernourished skin will improve the tone and texture of your face.

If you need a nice, non-greasy moisturizer that covers up minor flaws, then this cream may just be what you’re looking for. Click here to find good deals on Oil of Olay’s CC Cream Total Effects Moisturizer + a Touch of Foundation.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation Review

A Perfecting Waterfall For Your Skin?

Chanel’s new water-based foundation is getting some rave reviews from people who really know make up so we decided that maybe it was time for us to take a closer look at it, too.

One of the biggest challenges of finding good make up for aging skin is finding a quality foundation that doesn’t settle into lines or get cakey.

If you have dry skin, many foundations tend to get flakey and look streaky after a couple of hours. If you have oily skin, your face make up may slide right off because your adding more oil to the mix. Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation claims to be the perfect solution.

What Do They Claim?

Chanel’s description of this foundation refers to it as a “hybrid fluid” presumably because it’s a moisturizer and foundation in one. They also claim that it has a much softer, lighter texture than other fluid foundations that gives your face a natural appearance. It comes in 10 shades that cover both the pink and beige tones, is dermatologist-tested, non-comedogenic, and oil-free. Finally, it supposedly makes your skin look refined and feel refreshed.

Let’s take a look at the Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation ingredients to see if the product has what it takes to get the job done without making you look older.

What’s In It?

A cursory look at the ingredients in this foundation makes me happy. There are several different moisturizers including hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and of course water. There are also surfactants to make the makeup glide on smoothly. Finally, there are pigments in it that provide the coverage, and just a bit of fragrance.

For those of you who try to avoid parabens and sulfates, you’re going to find both in this foundation. There’s also alcohol listed but I suspect that it’s probably used as a delivery agent meant to evaporate and leave the light feeling that Chanel is so proud of.

What Are Users Saying?

The reviews on the Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation are overwhelmingly positive across all age groups and skin types though a couple of people with super oily skin reported that it didn’t last the entire day. People with average to dry skin report that it lasts all day, provides nice coverage, and feels like an extremely light second skin or like nothing at all.

One user equated the light fragrance to a high-end sunscreen, and everybody agreed that the smell is light and goes away quickly so that it’s not likely to bother even people with sensitivities to smell. The make up comes in a compact plastic container that’s easy to carry and doesn’t take up much space. The convenient dropper in the lid makes it a cinch to get the right amount every time.

One word of warning though: the make up apparently changes shades a bit as it dries so you may want to check it out 15 minutes or so after application to make sure that you’re getting the right shade. It reportedly runs closely to other shades so if you’re a light beige in your current foundation, you’ll most likely be a light beige in this one, too.

Final Word

Chanel may have just hit a homerun for women with aging skin who are looking for a good foundation that provides adequate coverage but doesn’t get cakey. Though this is a bit expensive, it doesn’t take much and may well be worth the investment. Click here to find the best prices on Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation.

Let’s take a closer look at this Avon’s retexturing peel to see if it can really alleviate dull looking skin and make way for a brighter, younger-looking complexion.

What Do They Claim?

According to Avon, this product is the Superman of retexturing peels. They claim that the results of this product are better than those that you’ll see from a 35% professional glycolic peel without the need to go to an expensive spa.

The advanced exfoliator peels away “dullness and visible age damage” so that your healthy new skin cells are visible, and the botanicals in it work to calm and nourish your skin.

What’s In It?

The first two ingredients are water and glycolic acid, so that’s a plus. Next is alcohol and not too much further down the list is ammonium hydroxide, so I’m a bit concerned about the drying effects that this may have. My skin tends to be really dry around my mouth and products with alcohol listed near the top often cause flaking and irritation.

Reading on down the list, there are a couple of different algae extracts which are great for regular to dry skin but may induce acne breakouts if you’re sensitive to them.

There’s also honey, which truly is a superhero in the skin and health field because of its antibacterial, antimicrobial and humectant properties. The shiitake mushroom extract in this product shares some of these properties but is lesser known to most people.

Other botanicals include pineapple and papaya extracts which also contribute to exfoliation, and the green tea, cucumber, aloe and chamomile extracts will soothe your skin and fight free radicals that cause dull-looking skin to begin with.

For those of you who are concerned about EDTA or propylene glycol in your cosmetics, this product contains them both.

Those two aside, there are some really good ingredients in Avon’s Clinical Advanced Retexturing Peel so let’s take a look at what real users have to say about it.

What Are Users Saying?

User reviews are a bit mixed with the Clinical Advanced Retexturing Peel depending upon where you look. Avon’s sight has overwhelmingly good reviews, but it’s their site. Allure magazine has given the product top marks a couple of times, so there has to be at least SOME value.

The only thing that I could really find that would be considered a negative thing is that some people who were prone to acne reported that this product broke them out, or increased their breakouts. Everyone else reported that age spots were diminished, skin tone was brighter and texture was improved, and some folks even say that it reduced their breakouts.

Final Word

My suggestion is to use this product with care in the beginning until you see how your skin is going to react. Because some people with sensitive or acne-prone skin reported redness, irritation, or breakouts, it’s better if that happens at night when you’ve got a few hours before you have to go anywhere.

That being said, the reviews were overwhelmingly positive and if your skin is dull and your products just aren’t absorbing the way that you thing that they should, then you should try this peel. It does have some really good botanicals in it to help soothe your skin and offset the drying effect of the glycolic acid so that puts it ahead of other peels in my book.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel Review

Does It Really Soothe Your Irritated Skin?

If you have sensitive skin, finding products that meet your skin care needs without irritating your skin can be a painful challenge.

Anti-aging ingredients are notoriously irritating, but many of them, including retinol, are proven to help eliminate wrinkles and other signs of aging, so is there something that can enable you to use these products?

According to SkinCeuticals, yes! Their Phyto Corrective Gel is supposedly formulated just for you.

In the next few paragraphs, we’re going to take a look at what’s in this alleged wonder product and find out what actual users are saying about it. We’ll decide if it’s the answer to your skin care problems!

What Do They Claim?

According to SkinCeuticals, their Phyto Corrective Gel is perfect for problematic or sensitive skin, is oil-free, and contains anti-inflammatory (cucumber) and anti-bacterial (thyme) ingredients that soothe your irritated skin. Supposedly, it also helps prep your skin for procedures such as peels and scrubs, and reduces redness after you have the procedure.

Finally – are you ready for this? – SkinCeuticals claims that the product contains natural alternatives to hydroquinone that help diminish dark spots and even out your complexion.

Wow! All that in one bottle? It sounds almost too good to be true, but if it is, it’s going to be well worth the slightly-hefty $50-$60 price tag. I’m dying to see what’s actually in it, so let’s move on.

What’s In It?

There are only 9 ingredients listed for Phyto Corrective Gel including Water, Botanical Glycosides, Uva Ursi Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cucumber Extract, Thyme Extract, Bioflavonoids, Phenoxyethanol, and Herbal Fragrance. Let’s break them down.

The botanical glycosides could be used for anything from lightening dark spots to detoxification. Since the specific ingredients aren’t listed, it’s hard to say. We already know that sodium hyaluronate, or hyaluronic acid, acts as a huge sponge and can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, so we love it.

Cucumber extract is an antioxidant, astringent, anti-inflammatory, and a soothing and softening agent. Thyme is being used more and more for acne treatment because of its antibacterial properties. Uva Ursi Extract has a similar composition and function to hydroquinone without the irritation, and bioflavonoids are extremely powerful antioxidants.

Finally, the phenoxyethanol is an antibacterial and preservative used more and more as an alternative to parabens.

These are some really good ingredients and I like the fact that there aren’t any sulfates, parabens or other toxins. Just because there’s good stuff in there doesn’t mean that it works the way that they claim, though. Let’s take a look at some of the reviews.

What Are Users Saying?

Many users with rosacea have chimed in to say how well this product does for them. They use it both daily to reduce redness and peeling, and after peels and rejuvenation treatments to alleviate redness and irritation. Users say that though it’s pricey, a little bit goes a long way.

People with sensitive skin or folks who are using retinol products also report that the Phyto Corrective Gel helps with irritation, flaking, and peeling. Some also report reduced redness and faded age spots. In general, nearly everybody reports softer skin, more even tones, less irritation, and no greasy or drying after effects.

Final Word

SkinCeutical’s Phyto Corrective Gel seems to actually do what it claims. As a matter of fact, I’m planning on picking up a bottle of it to try as soon as I can because it seems like lately everything in my cabinet is drying my skin out and causing irritation. At least I’ve found a product that may help! And I’ve found some better deals on it, too.
