Can Telomerase Reverse the Signs of Aging?

What is Telomerase and Can it Make You Look Younger?

As science progresses and the search for the fountain of youth continues, we learn more and more about what makes us age.

By the end of this article, you’re going to understand, at least in general terms, what a telomere is, what makes you look and feel older, and what you may be able to do to slow the progression.

What are Telomeres?

A full answer to this question would require a thesis befitting a genetic physicist, but what you really need to know is that a telomere is a string of identical little DNA information packets that are attached to the ends of your chromosomes. When your cells divide, a telomere “packet” goes with the new cell so that none of your genetic information is lost.

The problem is that each time your cells divide, the telomere string gets shorter. As this happens, your cells weaken and eventually die. The physical signs of cell death are the various signs of aging such as wrinkles, poor skin tone, and muscle degeneration.

Your cellular age can be determined by the length of your telomeres, so the obvious next step in anti-aging research is to figure out a way to maintain the length of your telomeres, thus preserving your youthful appearance and health. There’s been a breakthrough recently that has some exciting implications, and it involves a protein that some types of cells synthesize called telomerase.

How Does Telomerase Prevent Aging?

Scientists who study this sort of thing happened to notice that not all cells age. Some cells, namely reproductive cells, are immortal. They divide just like any other cell, but they don’t experience the shortening of their telomeres like other cells. They are basically immortal. The difference is that they actively produce and use telomerase.

So what exactly does the telomerase do to make the cell live forever? This is the really exciting part, and the one that may lead eventually to perpetual youth. As soon as the telomeres split off of a cell when it divides, telomerase acts as a filler to immediately fill in the gap and re-lengthen the telomere. Therefore, the cell doesn’t get short, weaken, and die. That’s an extremely simplified version of the process but you get the idea.

So Why Not Just Find a Way to Add Telomerase to All Our Cells?

That does seem to be the obvious solution, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, like many other bodily functions, nothing is as simple as it seems. Telomerase is present in all of our cells. Every cell in your body contains the exact same genetic information. However, for some reason, it’s not active in most cells. This may have something to do with some kind of natural defense.

Unfortunately, it’s not just normal, healthy cells that telomerase saves from cell death. Cancer cells respond the same way as all other cells do when telomerase is active: they grow and become immortal. This, obviously, is a bad thing, and possibly why telomerase isn’t active in all cells. Dying is a natural part of living, and the only cells that NEED the telomerase are reproductive cells; otherwise, embryos would be as old as you are.

Unfortunately, this is also one of the main reasons that we can’t just inject telomerase into our cells in order to achieve permanent youth. If cancer cells are injected, or if cancer-repressing cells are disabled, then you’re going to get cancer, not youth. Scientists are working diligently on this conundrum though, and there are some exciting discoveries, including compounds that can turn telomerase on in specific cells.

Final Thoughts

For now, we’re going to have to be satisfied with a new product that has been created by Dr. Bill Andrews, a leading anti-aging researcher, and Isagenix International, the global leader in cleansing products. This product, known simply as Product B, creates telomere support. In other words, it helps to keep your telomeres from shortening when your cells divide in order to promote youthful aging.

This product is available now and though it’s pricey, the testimonials are pretty amazing on it. A quick glance at the ingredients makes me really curious as well. As a matter of fact, the ingredients in the product are so interesting that I decided to do a complete product review on Product B. If you’d rather just take my word for it, click here to find the best deals on Product B now. I’ve also included a link to these deals in my Product B Review article.

The bottom line is that there is no fountain of youth, at least not yet. There are, however, hints of some pretty amazing anti-aging breakthroughs on the horizon. The more that we learn about the human body and how it works, the closer we are to preventing many of the diseases and conditions related to aging. What an amazing time to be a mature adult!

Product B Antioxidants Plus Telomere Support Review

Can It Really Stop Aging In Its Tracks?

Are you looking for a product that really works at the cellular level to help stop the signs of aging?

So are the rest of us, so pull up a chair and let’s talk about one of the newest products on the market, known simply as Product B.

In order to understand the full implications of what Product B claims to do, you need to know what telomeres are and what their role is in aging.

If you don’t know that, you should probably check out our article, Can Telomerase Reverse the Signs of Aging.

What Do They Claim?

Isagenix, a global leader in supplemental health care products, worked with Dr. Bill Andrews and other anti-aging researchers to develop Product B. They claim that it protects you from accelerated aging and poor health in three basic ways:

  • Helps maintain young, properly functioning cells by keeping your telomeres healthy and long
  • Helps protect you from disease and the signs of aging caused by free radical damage
  • Specifically targets such things as oxidative stress that contribute to aging.
  • These claims are significantly different than most of the products that we review because they aren’t working on your outside to get rid of wrinkles, age spots and other signs of aging; they’re claiming that Product B actually works at the cellular level to prevent aging to begin with.

Isagenix isn’t claiming to help you get rid of crow’s feet; they’re saying that “Product B helps maintain youthful function of cells and healthy telomeres so you can live a longer, healthier life”. Wow. That is a HUGE claim. Let’s tear it apart and see if Product B’s got what it takes to back it up.

    What’s In It?

Let me preface this section by saying that this product has a ton of alternative ingredients that, though used for centuries to cure or prevent dozens of ailments, haven’t been studied extensively enough to determine effectiveness or required dosages. I’m all about natural medicine, but I wanted to make you aware.

The first ingredient in Product B is milk thistle extract. This HAS been studied extensively and has been proven to have regenerative and protective properties for your liver. There haven’t been any studies that indicate whether or not it works the same for the rest of your body.

The next ingredient is a product that has also been studied extensively, withania somnifera, aka winter cherry or Indian ginseng. Though it’s used to treat many different illnesses, it’s particularly used to shrink tumors and treat/reverse Alzheimer’s.

There are about 40 such specialized ingredients in Product B, all of them natural, and many of them proven. Resveratrol is also really close to the top of the list, as is N-acetyl-L-cysteine, a protein that’s used regularly to treat and prevent liver damage, lung problems, allergies, and COPD. It’s also used as an antidote to acetaminophen and carbon monoxide poisoning.

There are several other equally-impressive proteins, amino acids and miscellaneous good stuff, too. A few names that you may recognize are Asian ginseng, pomegranate extract, DL-alpha lipoic acid, white and black teas, quercetin, and horny goat weed extract. Lots and lots of really good stuff that, if they do what naturalists claim, may very well back up the product claims.

    What Do Users Say?

My problem with this product is that there aren’t many genuine reviews. There are some YouTube videos where people document their use for 90 days, but I even question that kind of dedication to daily posting. There are any number of testimonials, but because they’re on Isagenix’ website, you have to consider that those are easily bought and paid for. Product B has been reviewed positively on several major TV networks and by celebrity doctors, though, so at the very least, it’s probably not going to do any harm.

    Final Word

I love the ingredients in this product. I don’t know whether or not they can actually help protect your telomeres because that’s such a new area of research. The antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories that are in the product are nearly enough to justify the hefty price.

Since there doesn’t appear to be anything harmful in it, I say give it a shotso as long as your doctor gives you the go-ahead. If you want to try it, click here to find some good deals on Product B.

If you’ve used Product B, please tell us about your experience in the comments section below.

Chia vs Flax – Which Seed Keeps You Healthier?

Can the Seed Used to Grow Chia Pets Be Healthier Than the Amazing Flax?

Are you looking for a great way to add fiber, calcium, and omega-3’s to your diet and are debating between chia seeds and flaxseed?

Maybe you’re already a devoted flax fan but have been hearing the latest hoopla about chia seeds.

Whatever your reason for wondering, we’re going to discuss the differences between flax and chia and decide once and for all which seed packs the biggest punch in your fight against illness and aging.

Chia vs Flax: Essential Fatty Acids

EFA’s are required by your body but unlike nearly every other nutrient, our bodies don’t make it at all. Therefore, we need to get it from food sources.

Both chia seeds and flaxseeds are great sources of omega-3’s but chia edges flax out nearly 2:1. Chia seeds have about 5000mg of omega 3’s plus the highest ratio of omega 3’s to omega 6’s of any plant source.

Flax seeds only have about 2700mg of omega 3’s but unlike chia seeds, flax has lignans. Lignans are phytoestrogens and are associated with reducing the risk of estrogen-related cancers such as breast cancer.

    Chia vs Flax: Fiber

As far as fiber goes, both of these superseeds offer a respectable amount, though chia edges flax out yet again. In 2 tablespoons, chia has almost 7 grams of fiber and flax has about 4 grams.

An advantage that chia has is that it’s hydrophilic; that is, it absorbs water. Actually, it changes into a gel when soaked and can be drank as well as eaten. This may make it better for people with seed sensitivities though you should speak with your doctor about this.

    Chia vs Flax: Nutrients

Nutritionally, chia’s a little better for you than flax. It has more antioxidants than blueberries, and certainly more than flax. Chia also has more calcium and phosphorus but flax has a decent amount of iron while chia doesn’t have any at all. Flax is also significantly higher in magnesium, copper, thiamin and selenium.

In 2 tablespoons, Chia has 4 grams of protein and flax only has 2 grams but realistically, this isn’t a significant difference. Still, it’s a difference that you now know about!

    Taste, Texture, and Storage

These are the areas where the differences between chia and flax become really apparent. Probably the least of these is the taste difference. Flax has a mildly nutty, grainy flavor while chia is nearly tasteless, though it does have a slightly nutty note.

Texturally, flax and chia are extremely similar in dry form. They’re both great in salads or with your cereal, granola, or yogurt. When wet, though, flax maintains its solid form while chia becomes tapioca-like, and completely gelatinous if soaked long enough. Because it does this, it’s much more versatile than flax; you can use it as a thickener, or just as an additive to your food without noticing a change in flavor or texture.

Regarding storage, flax can be stored whole at room temperature for up to a year. However, once it’s ground it needs to be refrigerated and used fairly quickly because it spoils and turns rancid. Since you must grind it in order for your body to be able to digest it, this makes it a bit inconvenient.

Chia, on the other hand, can be eaten whole and can be stored almost indefinitely at room temperature because the antioxidants in it keep it from spoiling. Also, you don’t need to grind it because your body can digest it whole.

Because I’m a busy person that really values convenience and versatility, this is a big deal for me.

    Final Word

Because of the high antioxidant content and excellent omega-3/omega-6 balance, chia is my go-to seed, especially when you consider the convenience and diversity that we just talked about. There’s really no reason to choose one or the other, though. Flax is still great for you and diversity is the key to good health, so go ahead – keep them both!

Top 8 Life-Extending Health Benefits of the Incredible Chia Seed

Feel Younger, Stronger, and Healthier With This Ancient Seed!

We all remember the Chi-chi-chi-chia pets that were all the rage in the 80’s but did you know that the seeds were a staple in the Aztec and Mayan diets for medicinal and nutritional purposes?

Neither did I, until I was talking to a friend of mine who’s a holistic nutritionist about the incredible health benefits of flax seed and he told me about chia. Now I’m going to share what I learned with you.

It turns out that chia seeds, a member of the mint family that’s native to Central America, is actually even better for you than flax, and you don’t have to grind it in order to make it digestible.

How Can You Use Chia Seeds?

Chia seeds can be eaten straight up, or you can add them to your yogurt, cereal, or salad. Because they hold large amounts of water – up to 10 times their weight – they’re also good to throw into soups, deserts, or gravies to make them thick. You can also sprout them and use them as a green.

When you soak chia seeds they get tapioca-like, or completely gelatinous depending upon how long you soak them. That makes them a great egg replacer or thickener. You can also make pudding with them. This opens up a whole new world of healthy opportunities for vegetarians and vegans. Since they’re gluten-free, they’re also great for people with Celiac Disease.

Chia Fresca, a traditional Mexican energy drink, is made by adding 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, honey, and lime juice to a cup of water and allowing it to sit for a few minutes until the seeds become gelatinous.

What are the Health Benefits of Chia Seeds?

The health benefits of chia seeds are almost limitless. They truly are a superfood; as a matter of fact, “chia” comes from the Mayan word for strength. Let’s get down to brass tacks and talk about the top 8 health benefits of this amazing food.

Just so you know, chia seeds don’t work instantly; you need to use them daily for a few weeks in order to begin reaping the full benefits.

    1. Relief for Joint Pain and Arthritis: Because of the anti-inflammatory and lubricating properties of the seeds that come from the omega-3’s, this was one of the medicinal purposes that Chia was originally used for. They may also help relieve the pain because the fatty acids are converted into prostaglandins.

    2. Heart Health: Omega 3’s and omega-6’s are known to fight cardiovascular disease and maintain proper function of the nervous and reproductive systems. The high fiber content also makes it good for your heart and studies indicate that it helps reduce bad cholesterol and lower blood pressure.

    3. Stabilizes Blood Sugar: Because of the high soluble fiber content, chia seeds slow down the digestion of carbohydrates, thus stabilizing blood glucose levels. This results in a steady, consistent supply of energy.

    4. Great Source of Nutritious Energy: In each ounce, chia seeds offer a balanced source of soluble fiber (11g), protein (4.4g), carbohydrates (12.3g) and fats (8.6g). According to ancient rumors, 1 single tablespoon of chia seeds is enough to sustain you for an entire 24 hours.

Marathon runners use chia seeds to improve both performance and stamina. This lost nutrient was brought back into mainstream use when Christopher McDougall revealed in his book Born to Run that the incredibly athletic Tarahumara Indians used the seeds as a primary source of energy when running in the desert.

Chia seeds are about 20% protein and they also contain strontium, which helps your body use the protein. This makes the seeds an efficient source of sustained energy.

    5. Excellent Source of Antioxidants: Chia seeds contain even more antioxidants than blueberries. We know that these amazing nutrients fight free radicals and prevent everything from the external signs of aging to several different forms of cancer.

There have even been links between antioxidants and degenerative brain disorders. Now research is showing that they can actually reverse some forms of cancer by attacking and killing the cancer cells directly.

    6. Weight Loss: We’ve already touched on all of the components that make chia seeds a great weight loss aid but let’s pull them all together. The fiber in them slows down digestion and helps prevent sugar cravings. The fact that they expand helps you to feel full longer and some experts claim that the gelatinous goo that they turn into in water will line your stomach and help prevent the absorption of calories.

The omega-3s and omega-6’s help boost your metabolism and also increases production of lean muscle. An ounce of chia contains more omega 3’s and 6’s than half of a salmon fillet. Since the seeds are also extremely low in calories, adding them to a weight loss plan is practically a no-brainer.

Click here to learn more about the health benefits of omega 3’s.

    7. Healthy Digestive Tract: The high amount of quality, soluble fiber in chia seeds keeps your digestive tract clean, lubricated, and free of toxins that can build up if things get backed up. Because it’s gelatinous instead of course like some forms of fiber, chia is soothing and gentle yet extremely effective.

    8. Bone Health: Many Americans don’t get the amount of calcium that they need in order to prevent osteoporosis. This is particularly prevalent in people who don’t eat dairy. An ounce of chia seeds provides 177 mg of calcium per serving. That’s about 18% of your recommended daily intake.

That’s not all, though. You also need other minerals for good bone health and chia offers them, too. You get 265 mg of phosphorus (27% DV), 0.6mg or manganese (30% DV), and smaller amounts of zinc, copper, and potassium. Not bad for just a mouthful of seeds.

The bottom line is that these little seeds truly are a youth-restoring, mega-healthy superfood. They address practically every issue that we face as aging adults and they do so with no negative side effects whatsoever. They can be a bit expensive but when you consider that a little bit goes a long way, chia is well worth it.

In order to save you both time and money, I’ve researched and found the best prices on chia to be had. Click here to check out the great deals on chia that I found.

Almay Smart Shade Anti-Aging Concealer Review

Does Almay Smart Shade Concealer Make You Look Younger?

Are you on the hunt for a concealer that not only covers blemishes and hides fine lines and wrinkles, but also helps you get rid of them altogether?

If so, then you may want to give Almay’s new product a shot. Their Smart Shade Anti-Aging Concealer is supposedly the latest thing in youth-restoring cosmetics.

As usual, we’re going to take a closer look at this product to determine whether or not it actually does what it says.

    What Do They Claim?

Almay makes five basic claims about their Smart Shade Anti-Aging Concealer:

    • Moisturizes and smooths the skin around your eyes
    • Helps conceal minor imperfections and dark circles under your eyes
    • Matches your skin tone
    • Reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles
    • Protects your skin with SPF 20 sunscreen
    • If this product actually does all 5 of these things, then it really may be the breakthrough concealer that they claim that it is. Especially considering the fact that there’s only three shades, light, light/medium, and medium, that supposedly matches itself to your skin tone, I’m anxious to learn more about it.

      What’s In It?

The first two ingredients listed are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, both sunscreens, so there’s one claim supported by ingredients.

The next few ingredients are emollients, moisturizers and skin smoothing agents, but then there are several different peptides, fatty acids, and vitamins that are known collagen boosters, cell rejuvenators, natural skin tighteners, and antioxidants.

Since these are pretty high up on the list of ingredients, that means there’s a significant amount of them in the concealer. Just according to the ingredients, the concealer has the potential to help eliminate lines and wrinkles.

So now we only need to see if there are ingredients in it that will help conceal dark spots under your eyes. There are. As a matter of fact, there are both colorants and ingredients that refract light so that discoloration and dullness will be hidden.

OK, so the product has the ingredients to back up Almay’s claims, theoretically. Let’s take a look at what users have to say about how it REALLY works.

      What are Users Saying?

Reviews on this product are really mixed. It seems to be one of those love it or hate it type of concealers. It seems to work best for people with regular skin and light/medium to medium tones. Light-skinned people report that it looks oompa loompa-ish. In other words, it’s orange, so if you have a pink skin tone, you may not like it.

The general consensus was that the product was moisturizing but a couple of people with really dry skin reported that it sits on top of scaley skin and highlights it. There were only a couple of people who said that, but if you have really dry skin, you may want to exfoliate before using it.

Regarding coverage, people pretty much say that it works well as long as you’re only looking for light coverage. There’s not really much said about actual wrinkle reduction but users do report that the product hides wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, and dark spots under your eyes. Finally, people with sensitive skin really seem to like the Smart Shade Concealer.

      Final Word

If you’re looking for a product to use under a good foundation to help you brighten your skin and cover fine lines, then you may like this product. Since nobody really reports anything about long-term permanent wrinkle reduction, I can’t recommend it for that.

If you’re just looking for a good concealer, this may work for you. Since it’s relatively low-cost, blends well, brightens skin, and and interacts well with sensitive skin, I say give it a shot.

Retinol Anti-Aging Hand Cream with SPF 12 Review

Does Retinol Work on Your Hands, Too?

No matter how much effort we put into keeping our faces looking young, it’s our hands that give us away.

We can have smooth, wrinkle-free foreheads and cheeks but if our hands are wrinkled, veiny, and covered in loose skin, we’re not fooling anybody that looks too closely. So what’s the solution? Take good care of your hands, too!

I’ve done considerable research in the anti-aging ingredients arena and have come to the conclusion that retinol, regardless of how old-school it is, is still one of the best wrinkle-fighters out there. I also figured that the skin of the hands isn’t usually as sensitive as facial skin, so more people can probably use retinol on their hands. Thus I set out in search of a good retinol hand cream.

It came in the form of a product by LdeL called Retinol Anti-Aging Hand Cream with SPF 12 by LdeL Cosmetics.

    What Do They Claim?

According to the product labeling, this product hydrates and refreshes your hands using retinol palmitate. This combination of vitamins A, C, and E increases cell turnover and collagen production to make your hands look younger. The cream also claims to fight free radicals and treat and heal dry skin so that your hands have a youthful glow.

Now that we know what they claim, let’s take a look at the ingredients to see if the product has the stuff to back up the talk.

    What’s In It?

The first three ingredients are sunscreen, which is a good thing, though I’m not crazy about the fact that it’s only SPF 12. Still, that’s better than nothing. The next several ingredients are water and a string of moisturizers, stabilizers, and emollients. Pretty close to the top of the list is retinyl palmitate, just like they claim. So far, so good.

Next up are the promised anti-oxidants (including green tea extract), vitamins, and oils that will indeed fight free radicals to help keep your skin young-looking. There are also some crosspolymers and other ingredients that help bind the cream and make it glide on smoothly.

An interesting ingredient that caught my eye is limonene. It’s a product used to make creams smell like oranges. Some of you may not like this, but it’s a plus for me because I love the smell of citrus, and oranges in particular. It’s a personal taste but one that I thought I’d mention because limonene is pretty strong.

    What Are Users Saying?

Most people who use this product say that it’s moisturizing and makes your hands feel soft and supple. The majority of users also report younger looking skin on their hands. Though the product doesn’t claim it, people reported a reduction in dark spots as well so that’s an unexpected plus. Oh, and some users like to use it on their feet, too.

Regarding usage, the product goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy. People with really dry skin did say that they needed to use it several times a day to keep their hands from being dry. Considering the fact that retinol is generally drying, this doesn’t come as a big surprise to me.

    Final Word

I say try it. It’s relatively inexpensive and if nothing else, it will keep your hands soft and supple. Lotion is a product that most of us use, so if you’re going to buy it anyway you might as well buy one with retinol in it. The worst thing that can happen is that your hands look the same but are moisturized. Just that will make them look younger even if the retinol doesn’t work for you.

Retinol Anti-Aging Hand Cream with SPF 12.

L’oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Cellular Masque Review

Make Your Dry, Frizzy, Damaged Hair Look Young and Healthy Again

Have you spent the last several years hiding those pesky gray hairs with chemical colors? Maybe your hair’s just dry and frizzy from years of being dried, curled, straightened, and otherwise tortured into gorgeousness.

Regardless of why your hair is frazzled, wouldn’t it be awesome to find a product that would make it healthy and strong again?

L’oreal claims to have a product available from salon professionals that will restore your youthful bounce and shine. We’re going to dig into what’s in Absolut Repair Cellular Masque and see if it’s worth the money that you’ll pay.

    What DoThey Claim?

L’oreal claims that the hallmark of healthy hair is strong, intact cell structures and ionic bonds. Unfortunately, in dry, sensitized hair, the cortex cells in the hairshaft are disconnected. That causes the internal structure of your hair to weaken and become dry, dull, and frizzy.

To repair this damage, they use their patented InCell and Lactic Acid Technologies to “reach to the heart of the hair fiber to repair broken bods while simultaneously working at the surface of the hair to smooth the cuticle for a shiny, glossy finish”.

Wow, as a woman who just had her hair fried by an incompetent stylist, this is great news indeed. Now let’s take a closer look at what’s in it to see if it’s worth it’s relatively hefty price tag.

    What’s In It?

This part’s a little unclear – L’oreal doesn’t publish ingredients on their website and nobody else seems willing to share the info either. There’s definitely lactic acid in the product but the magic ingredients that supposedly make your hair wonderful again aren’t disclosed, nor are they available anywhere else. Users do say that there are no sulfates listed.

I will add a quick note here that an old wives treatment for split ends is milk, and often those tales are based in some sort of fact or simple success from trial and error. Milk contains lactic acid, the same active ingredient in this product.

    What Are People Saying?

People overwhelmingly love this product and say that it works. There are a few that say that it doesn’t work any better than Kolesterol, which is cheaper, and a handful of people say that it didn’t work at all.

The majority who loved it say that they saw some results after the first use, and after a week, hair was like new. They report that it’s soft, silky, and smooth with no sign of frizz or dullness. Everyone who had positive results started out with really dry, damaged hair so maybe that was the factor. The product is, after all, made to treat frizzy, fried hair so if your hair is already healthy, it probably won’t do much good.

    Final Word

I don’t generally endorse a product without picking it apart ingredient by ingredient and this one isn’t going to be the exception. I will, however, tell you that because of the amazing user reviews, L’oreal’s Absolut Repair Cellular with Lactic Acid Masque is worth checking out for yourself.

I know that I’m going to go check it out, and if I use it, I’ll let you all know how it works. If you try it, or if you’ve used it in the past, please tell us what you thought of the product in the comments section below.

Maybelline’s New York Instant Age Rewind Eraser Review

Does it Erase the Years or Just Your Account Balance?

Are you looking for a great concealer with SPF that will help you get rid of your wrinkles?

Maybelline has a product that, at first glance, promises to do just that.

In the search for a good drug store anti-aging product, I came across Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser.

The packaging is eye-catching and the product itself looks pretty cool. It’s in a tube that had a soft, spongy-looking applicator on top.

OK – it caught my eye, so I decided to pick it up for a closer look.

    What Do They Claim?

Maybelline promises that you’ll love this product for 4 reasons:

    1. It has a patented, Micro-Corrector Applicator that will micro-fill and smooth the imperfections on your face. The applicator has an anti-microbial in it for hygiene purposes.

    2. It will tighten and improve your skin’s elasticity with its “super-concentrated formula” that has collagen and gogi berries in it.

    3. It has SPF 18 sunscreen to help protect your skin from sun damage.

    4. Finally, it has clinically proven effectiveness. They claim 7 years of research and 5 patents and say that the product will actually reduce imperfections with 8 weeks of use. They also claim that it won the “#1 anti-aging foundation” but they don’t say from whom.

That all sounds awesome and if it’s true, I’m a buyer. Let’s take a closer look and see if the Instant Age Rewind Eraser has the goods to back up Maybelline’s claims.

    What’s In It?

The only active ingredient listed is octinoxate 7.5%, which is a sunscreen. Even though the other ingredients are listed as inactive, I still read through them. The product has vitamin E and vitamin C but they’re listed about halfway down the list, which means that there isn’t much in there.

As we’ve discussed before, ingredients are always listed most to least in order of weight. The last two ingredients are collagen and hyaluronic acid.

What, no retinol or other big-hitting anti-aging ingredient? It’s not looking good at this point but let’s not be hasty.

    What Are Users Saying?

This is the really weird part. Users love it. Not just a few users but the vast majority of people who reviewed it had great things to say about the Instant Age Rewind Eraser. The only real complaints came from a couple of people with sensitive skin who say that it bothered their eyes.

Everybody seems to like the way that the Instant Age Rewind Eraser goes on, as well as the tone and the coverage. The sponge applicator seems to be a real hit, and the consistency of the makeup itself seems to offer great concealment without looking cakey or settling into fine lines.

What people didn’t mention though was any long-term wrinkle or dark circle reduction. My guess is that there really isn’t any because there’s nothing in the product to make it happen.

Another major faux pas that Maybelline made is that the product is only available in the middle range of colors. There’s a creamy ivory but it looks too dark for somebody with a porcelain complexion.

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s a tan. Unfortunately, the color looks pretty light so if your complexion is darker than café au lait, it’s probably going to be too light.

    Final Word

If you look at the claims that Maybelline makes, Instant Age Rewind Eraser is great at concealing your blemishes and undereye circles. Users also say that it goes on well, offers a great finish, and doesn’t settle into your lines. As long as your skin is either dark or light enough to match one of the shades offered, you may like the product.

Regarding the tightening and improvement of your skin that they promise, some people say that they see it but the ingredients just don’t back it up. I’m skeptical until I try it for myself. Since it’s less than $15, I’ll probably give it a try if for no other reason than the raves that it gets as a concealer.

Dior Capture XP Ultimate Deep Wrinkle Correction Serum Review

Will Dior Get Rid of Your Wrinkles?

Are you tired of paying big bucks for anti-aging products that just don’t work?

So are we, so we’re on a mission to bring you the TRUE low-down on the latest products in the wrinkle-fighting arena.

We’re going to take a look today at Dior’s Capture XP Ultimate Deep Wrinkle Correction Serum to see if it’s got what it takes or if it’s just another waste of your hard-earned cash.

    What Do They Claim?

First, let me begin by saying that this serum is part of a wrinkle-correcting collection. It can be used either as a stand-alone product or by itself. Dior, or course, suggests using it as part of the regimen.

According to Dior, the serum boosts and restores the density of your skin beneath the wrinkle, thus smoothing your skin and making you look younger. It works in the epidermis using epidermal mother cells to revitalize your youth-preserving cells to keep your skin full and to rebuild lost mass.

They also claim that it promotes production of hyaluronic acid, the moisture retainer that your body uses to keep your skin plump and wrinkle-free.

Dior says that your wrinkles will be smoothed out and “intensely reduced” in a month.

Wow, so OK. They’re not only talking a big game, they’re putting themselves on a time clock. Let’s take a look at what’s actually in the product.

At first it was a little tough finding an ingredients list; all they want to say is that it has their proprietary blends of special herbs and spices. I did find a partial list though and what’s in it is actually pretty encouraging.

    What’s In It?

The first ingredient that caught my eye was Alpinia Galanga Leaf Extract. This is a plant in the ginger family and is known to stimulate hyaluronic acid production. Another great ingredient is Bifida ferment lysate. In theory, this ingredient is a DNA repairing agent and absorbs skin-damaging UV rays.

There are also the standard preservatives, silicons, and other skin-smoothing agents, but these are the main ones listed.

    What Do Users Say?

People who’ve tried this product really love it. They report that they feel a tingling upon application. Users also report a noticeable decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as greater moisturization. There is a scent though. Even though everybody says that it smells great, you may not like it if you’re sensitive.

The serum absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel sticky or oily. Users also like that it’s so hydrating that many people don’t even need to use a moisturizer. Nobody reported an adverse reaction and it doesn’t clog pores.

The biggest complaints are that the smell is too strong and the cost is a bit prohibitive.

    Final Words

This product is frequently used by people in conjunction with the rest of the line, but many people also have great success with the product just using it by itself.

Because users overwhelmingly saw results and the ingredients in the Dior’s serum actually suggest that it can back up its claims, It seems that the serum actually does what it says.

Garnier Ultra-Lift Pro Gravity Defying Cream Review

An Affordable Wrinkle Fighter Available at Your Local Drugstore?

Wouldn’t it be great if there were an effective wrinkle cream available that didn’t cost the moon?

Garnier claims that they have just such a product.

Their Ultra-Lift Pro Gravity Lift Cream, available in drug stores and department stores around the world, supposedly “resculpts cheeks, jawline and neck” by stimulating collagen production.

We’re going to take a look at the ingredients and user reviews to see if this product can actually do what it says.

    What Do They Claim?

Garnier claims that Ultra-Lift Pro works from the inside out to plump underneath the surface of your skin using an extract from the beech tree. It’s non-comedogenic, gentle, non-greasy, and allergy-tested. According to Garnier it won’t clog your pores.

Now that we know what they SAY it will do, let’s take a look at the ingredients to see if the cream has what it takes to back up the claims.

    What’s In It?

The first few ingredients listed in a product are always the ones that make up the majority of a product. In Garnier’s product, the first few ingredients are water, a skin conditioning agent, and apricot kernel oil which is used as a conditioner and thickener. So far, so good. No “bad stuff” like lye or roofing materials. (Yes, some products use them!)

In addition to all of the standard stuff, there are 3 key ingredients that standout. The first is retinol which is a form of vitamin A that’s long been proven to fight wrinkles. The next is salicylic acid, a product that exfoliates and stimulates collagen production.

The final ingredient worth mentioning is hydroxypropyl tetrahydropyrantriol, aka Pro-Xylane. This ingredient is supposed to stimulate natural restoration of moisture and nutrients to your skin.

Considering what the product claims, it appears as if it has the ingredients to get the job done. Let’s take a look at what people who are using it have to say.

    What Are Users Saying?

People overwhelmingly love this product. Even people who claim to have tried more expensive, department store-only brands say that they like Garnier’s Ultra-Lift Pro Gravity Defying Cream. Here are the main things that people love about it:

    • Texture is good
    • Gentle – it doesn’t break out most people, even if you have sensitive skin
    • Not greasy – the product absorbs well and doesn’t leave a sticky residue
    • Improves skin texture
    • Moisturizes
    • Smells good
    • Tightens skin
    • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles

There are a few people that tried it that either didn’t like it at all, or didn’t like it as well as they’d have liked. There were really only two reasons for these people.

    • The smell, though pleasant, was too strong
    • Causes breakouts – this happened to only an extremely limited number of people

As you can see, there really aren’t any serious complaints about the cream and many people claim that they use it morning and night because it feels so good on their skns.

    Final Words

I was prepared to dislike this product and tell you that it’s a waste of your money, but I’m pleasantly surprised. Usually when I review a drug store brand, I come away disappointed and with a bad taste in my mouth. This product, however, makes me glad that I took the second look.

If you’re sensitive to the smell, ask the counter person if you can smell it, and even use a little bit of it, in advance. If you can’t though, this product is an inexpensive and effective way to fight wrinkles and stay young looking. Even if you don’t like it, you’re only out a minimal amount of cash.
