Hormones that Keep Skin Firm

Women are faced with monthly fluctuations in hormones, there is no getting around this fact and the mere fact that our bodies are constantly in a state of flux means that internal changes will be exhibited externally.

Hormones play a big part in how our skin looks. As teenagers, our hormones showed through on our face in the form of acne and pimples, sometimes this carried over into our 20′s and maybe even our 30′s. Then, when women start to hear their biological clock ticking, hormones can give way to a glowing, radiant appearance, only to result in more acne once we are pregnant. Finally, as the need for reproduction lessens and our bodies give way to menopause, certain hormones break down, causing other deficiencies that can affect the firmness of our skin, how supple skin is to the touch and even promote wrinkles and other signs of aging.

However, as there is little we can do to completely stop the march of time and ultimate fluctuations with our hormones, there are many things we can do to calm the symptoms.

For teenagers and women who are pregnant, it is necessary for you to drink a lot of water and maintain a healthy diet. Wash your face to get rid of excess oil and dirt, but do not overdue it. If you over wash your skin, you are likely to stimulate your oil glands to produce more oil. In addition, use an oil free moisturizer and cut back on heavy makeup which can also promote acne.

If you are menopausal, it is necessary for you to get plenty of exercise. This will stimulate blood flow and oxygen to the skin which will help with a glowing appearance and the delivery of nutrients to various layers of your skin. In addition, it may be wise to enlist the help of your doctor and receive a consultation on hormone therapy which can help regulate estrogen levels.
