Age Spots Removal: Treatments That Work

There comes a point in every woman’s life when you start to look at the skin on your hands, face, legs and arms and you begin to notice age spots. It is during times like this that it is easy to immediately wish that you would have been smarter when you were younger and put some sun block on instead of that baby oil and wear a hat to keep from getting sun on your face.

The thing about hindsight is that it is always 20/20 and there is nothing that we can do to go back and change it. However, we can change our behavior today and there is something that we can do about age spots in order to make them go away and enjoy a youthful appearance.

There have been many developments in the scientific and beauty communities that allow individuals to remove age spots and rejuvenate their skin. Furthermore, if you can train yourself to stay out of the sun, they do not have to return, ever!

One of the best options for age spots are microdermabrasion treatments, which actually works to smooth and exfoliate the upper layers of skin, removing dead cells. This process involves a series of treatments, but when it is finished, the individual will notice a smoother appearance with less pigmentation on their skin and fewer wrinkles. While this can be a pricey procedure, it is one that definitely works and is available at most spas and plastic surgeon’s offices.

A classic treatment option for age spots is any cream that contains Retin-A or an alpha hydroxy acid. However, it must be noted that if you decide to use this type of cream, you need to stay out of the sun as these ingredients will make you incredibly sensitive and will increase the likelihood of sunburns and further damage. Be careful to not use a cream like Retin-A that also has a bleaching agent in it, the reason for this is while the bleaching agent will reduce the pigmentation of the age spot, it will also bleach your skin.

In contrast, the latest creams for age spots use a combination of Alpha-Arbutin and kojic acid. These ingredients are naturally occurring lightening agents and two of nature’s strongest whiteners. Creams containing Alpha-Arbutin and kojic acid make a great alternative to prescribed medications. Also, they are a much less expensive choice than both prescribed medications and microdermabrasion. Some of the most popular products featuring these ingredients include Civant’s Meladerm and Premium Natural’s SkinBright.

Whatever option you are considering for age spots, do your due diligence and if possible contact a dermatologist to learn what treatment method would be best for your problem and your skin tone.
