Do You Want Brighter, Younger-Looking Skin?

is your skin flaky and ashy looking, even if you have an oily complexion? If so, you could just need to exfoliate. Clinique, one of the worlds’s leading scientifically-driven cosmetics giants, claims that their Clarifying Lotion will do just that. Over the next few paragraphs, we’ll take a look at it to see what’s in it and what users are saying about it.

What Does Clinique Claim?

There are actually three steps to Clinique’s Skin Care Regimen and they have sets that address each skin care need. Though the goals of each set are the same (beautiful, younger looking skin), the ingredients differ a bit. We’re going to look at exfoliating Step 2, the clarifying lotion, in the oily/combination line.

Clinique’s Clarifying Lotion is the step that actually works to slough off the dead skin to reveal new, bright skin underneath. It makes your skin look fresher and smoother from the first use, and within 2 weeks, the results will be obvious, especially if you use all three steps (clean, exfoliate and moisturize) of the system.

What’s In It?

The ingredients in this product are fairly straightforward. The actives are witch hazel, alcohol, menthol and sodium borate. The alcohol is obviously an astringent but witch hazel has been used for centuries as a skin conditioning agent and to tone and tighten skin to make it look younger.

Menthol has a dual purpose in skin care products. It’s an anesthetic and a penetration enhancer that can help vitamins and other useful ingredients to penetrate your skin.

Finally, sodium borate is a cleansing agent and buffering agent that softens your water and keeps ingredients from settling into your pores. Beside using the active ingredients, there really aren’t any bad ingredients. Water and some dyes. That’s it.

What Are Users Saying?

The majority of users love this product. There are some issues with the fact that the first ingredient is alcohol. Apparently the clarifier smells pretty heavily of alcohol, too. That’s the only complaint and there are actually very few people who made this complaint but it does bear mentioning. As a matter of fact, one of the main pros of the Clinique Clarifying Lotion is that it’s non-drying.

Other pros of this product include that it’s exfoliating, balancing, refreshing, acne treating, and cleansing.

Final Word

Usually alcohol isn’t OK in the products that we review but we’re going to step away from that rule for two reasons here. First, people are reporting that it’s effective. Since the clarifier doesn’t have any truly bad ingredients in it and it’s followed by a moisturizer, we say give it a shot!
