Antioxidant Rich Foods

antioxidant rich foods

There is a lot of talk about the benefits that antioxidant rich food can offer to your body and the war that is currently being waged against aging. Most people who are “in the know” about this subject matter know that fruits like blueberries and pomegranates may be some of the best sorts of foods for this movement; however, what many do not know is that there are less colorful foods such as peanuts, beans, artichokes and potatoes that may actually hold larger doses of antioxidants than even some of the more colorful fruits that have been praised by health enthusiasts for years.

There have been recent studies that have shown that red beans may be just as, if not more, antioxidant rich than blueberries. In addition, it has been proven that certain spices, such as oregano, ground cloves and cinnamon hold high percentages of antioxidants, although they usually received less attention that prominent fruits and vegetables, simply because you can’t usually consume any of those spices in large doses.

Don’t get us wrong, continue adding blueberries to your cereal in the morning and enjoy that healthy bowl of raspberries as a mid-afternoon snack, as these are great foods. The point we are trying to make is the fact that there are a variety of foods out there that are great for every part of your body and will help protect you against the common signs of aging as well as stand as a safe guard against debilitating diseases like heart disease, Alzheimer’s and possibly even cancer.

So on your next run to the grocery store, consider stocking up on more than just blueberries. If you like nuts for example, pecans, walnuts and hazelnuts are the most antioxidant rich nuts out there. But the list doesn’t stop there…

If you incorporate more of the following items into your diet, you will find that you will look younger, longer, while you enjoy all of these great foods:

  • plums, blueberries, blackberries and cherries
  • pecans, walnuts, peanuts and hazelnuts
  • beans, artichokes and potatoes
  • red cabbage and brussels sprouts
  • oregano, ground cloves and cinnamon
  • olive oil
